Accessibility Statement

Last updated: 6th April 2026

Our Commitment

Hornsey's Boutique is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone and applying the relevant accessibility standards to our website and e-commerce platform.

Conformance Status

We aim to conform to Level AA of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1. As a small, independently operated boutique, our website is under active development. While we strive for full compliance, some areas may not yet meet all AA criteria. We are actively identifying and addressing known barriers.

Feedback & Contact Information

We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of Hornsey's Boutique. If you experience barriers or require information in an alternative format (e.g., large print, accessible PDF, or screen-reader optimised text), please contact us:

Email: [email protected]
Address: Hornsey's Boutique, 13 High St, Clare, Sudbury, Suffolk, CO10 8NY

We aim to respond to accessibility feedback within 5 working days.

Known Limitations & Workarounds

Despite our best efforts, some content may not yet be fully accessible. Below is a list of known limitations and our planned remedies:

  • Third-Party Checkout Widgets: Payment interfaces hosted by Stripe may occasionally present keyboard navigation inconsistencies. We are coordinating with Stripe's accessibility team to monitor updates.
  • Product Image Galleries: Some carousel controls lack visible focus indicators on certain mobile browsers. A fix is scheduled for our next theme update.
  • Colour Contrast: Hover states and secondary buttons are being adjusted to consistently meet WCAG 2.1 AA contrast ratios (4.5:1 for text, 3:1 for UI components).
  • Form Labels: Older newsletter or contact form fields are being updated to include explicit `label` elements for improved screen reader compatibility.

Technical Specifications

Accessibility of Hornsey's Boutique is assessed against the following standards:

  • Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA
  • HTML5 semantic structure and ARIA attributes where necessary
  • CSS3 with responsive, fluid layouts
  • Keyboard navigation and focus management best practices

Assessment & Testing Approach

We evaluate our website's accessibility through a combination of:

  • Automated testing tools (e.g., WAVE, Lighthouse, axe DevTools)
  • Manual keyboard navigation testing
  • Screen reader compatibility checks (NVDA on Windows, VoiceOver on macOS/iOS)
  • Regular internal reviews during site updates and new feature rollouts

Enforcement Procedure

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the Equality Act 2010, which covers accessibility in the UK. If you are not satisfied with our response to your accessibility concern, you may contact the EHRC for further guidance: Equality Advisory and Support Service.
